I know it's the end of January, and maybe you are tired of hearing people talk about their "word for the year." Bear with me. I'll make it quick!
My word for the year is SIT.
That may seem like a strange word to pick, seeing as we were a little cooped up in 2020. Let me explain my choice. As I mentioned in December's post, my word last year was "open," and I received a few unexpected gifts. This year, I sense God calling me to sit with these gifts. I feel sure the blessings I received will take me out of my comfort zone. However, when I feel overwhelmed, unsure, anxious, or doubtful, I can return and simply sit.
I also decided to pick one area of my life for each month this year and intentionally sit with it. I invite you to join me as I feature one of the following in my monthly post and suggest ways to sit with them.
God
Family
Myself
Community
The Present Moment
Writing
Creating
Moderation
Gratitude
Joy
Love
Are there areas in your life that you may need to sit more closely with this year? Perhaps imagine yourself on the bench pictured above and sit with whatever is calling you.
I will close with a poem to sit with because Amanda Gorman's performance of The Hill We Climb deeply moved and inspired me as it did for so many. It reminded me how much I loved poetry as a child; Shel Silverstein, Tasha Tudor, and Free to Be You and Me by Marlo Thomas, to name a few.
